Ashoka Tree / Polyalthia longifolia plant , commonly known as the Ashoka or Mast Tree, is an elegant evergreen tree appreciated for its sleek, narrow leaves and suitability as a shade tree. The tree’s foliage consists of long, lance-shaped, glossy green leaves that are densely arranged, providing a lush, green canopy. It typically grows tall with a slender trunk, forming a pyramidal or columnar shape, and its drooping branches create an umbrella-like canopy.
Although mature trees rarely flower outside their native habitat, under ideal conditions, Polyalthia longifolia can produce small, greenish-yellow, fragrant flowers. The tree can reach heights of 40 to 60 feet (12 to 18 meters) or more, depending on the growing environment.
For optimal growth, plant Polyalthia longifolia in a spot that receives full sun to partial shade. It thrives in warm to tropical climates and is sensitive to frost, so it’s essential to protect it from freezing temperatures. The tree prefers well-draining, fertile soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH.
