Tuberose
Tuberose commonly known as Polianthes tuberosa, Mexican Tuberose, Rajanigandha, or Polyanthus lily, is renowned for its strong and enticing fragrance. This exquisite flower blooms in late summer, producing heavily scented flowers that are perfect for adding scent and beauty to your garden pots or borders. The Tuberose produces a spike of creamy flowers that rise above its grassy foliage, making them ideal for cut flowers or patio pots.
Given its preference for warmer climates, it’s best to start Tuberose indoors to ensure they receive ample warmth to break dormancy. Place them in a warm greenhouse, conservatory, or a sunny windowsill to encourage growth. Once the weather warms, usually from May onwards, they can be transferred outside. Typically, signs of growth appear by mid-summer.
For optimal growth, plant one Polianthes Tuberosa bulb in a 10-12cm diameter pot or three bulbs in a larger 15-18cm pot. This approach will ensure your Tuberose thrives, providing a delightful fragrance and beautiful blooms that enhance any garden space. Whether used as cut flowers or patio displays, Tuberose will bring a touch of elegance and a wonderful scent to your surroundings.
